DBA SIG Updates

Hey Eveybody!, Bill from the DBA SIG and the rest of the incredible SIG leaders, especially the DBA SIG leadership remind you to talk with your developers. Consider asking them to take a look at sp_gettapplock to help with those pesky deadlocks you keep harpen' on 'em about. Ask 'em to make sure they take a look at the APPLOCKMODE() and APPLOCKTEST() T-SQL functions too. And don't let them forget that even ASP.NET code can use sp_getapplock to serialize multi-step operations if that is the right place to serialize.
Even more important, don't you forget that we are working to present the first ever DBA SIG sponsored LiveMeeting broadcast in February. It's a fabulous opportunity to take an informal and informed look into SQL Server 2005 security with one of SQL Servers most excellent teachers. It is also the first in a series of LiveMeeting Broadcasts we hope to share with you in the months leading to the next Community Summit in Denver in September. This is your next best opportunity to actively participate in a real time, interactive sit down with one of the most brilliant leaders among our database collegues.
And one final reminder: keep your eyes peeled for our upcoming announcement on establishing an open source resource. A place where you and I and everyone else reading the Connector can wok together toward the goal of building the best dang collection of DBA Tools for SQL Server you ever saw and available only to PASS members!
Wish us luck at making these great benefits for PASS members a reality in the days to come or feel free to jump in and help us "make it so". Watch here for further details and drop us a note at DBA_SIG_Leaders@sqlpass.org explaining your ideas and energies if you'd like to join the leadership of the DBA SIG. We need people just like you.
